AC Capers

Joseph Aaron Capers, or AC for short, is a graduate of James Bowie High School class of 2005. At Bowie High School, he was under the tutelage of Doyle Bellville, Dustin Schulze, and Ron Schermerhorn. He took part in a number of percussion ensembles, marching ensembles, concert bands, and jazz bands. In his junior year, he participated in his first WGI percussion ensemble, Insignia,  under the direction of Jeff Ausdemore. In his senior year, he joined another WGI group, Surround Sound Percussion, with whom he marched from 2005-2008.

He went on to march with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in 2008, where they won I&E Gold in the Bass Ensemble category.  After that summer he taught with the Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps from 2009-2011, where his students went on to win their own I&E Gold in the Bass Ensemble category.

As a member of Dynamic Rhythm Entertainment, he was able to be a part of the Cutting Edge Haunted House Percussion Ensembles, The Dallas Mavericks Drumline, San Antonio Spurs Hype Quad, FC Dallas Soccer Club, and a bevy of corporate gigs. He was also a member of the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm and Blue Drumline from 2010-2012.

He started his professional drum set journey playing for the hip hop band, The Boxer's Brain. Then shortly afterward joining folk-rock/americana band, Loyal Sally.  From taking gig after gig and subbing in for other bands, more opportunities came his way as he was asked to sit in with the latin/peruvian rock band, Mayta. The bassist from that band then asked him to join his soul/funk/reggae fusion band, The Effinays. Fast forward to 2020, he became a member of the pop-punk band, Further North.

His expertise comes from his flexibility to adapt his style of play to fit whatever genre he needs to. Anything from reggae to latin, funk to pop-punk, folk-rock to hip hop, and all the beautiful genres in between, he’s more than capable of fitting in and playing his role to perfection.
